Living in an apartment generally has its ups… and downs. You most likely won’t have a yard to maintain, large appliances will be initially provided and replaced for you with normal wear and tear, and if something breaks, you simply call the rental office and have them put in a work order. However, many apartments tend to be very basic in design — white walls, tile floors, average-looking carpet (if any at all). As a large family on a fixed income, we do our best with what we have.. and what we can afford — adding bits and pieces here and there to accentuate the bare look of our rooms.
What I dislike most about our apartment are the bland, uninteresting tile floors. They have no OOMPH whatsoever! Our living room is the gathering spot in our home… this is where we as a family play games, watch television, exercise, and at times … eat our meals. My granddaughters visit often, and like most small children, they tend to play on the floor… which usually includes rolling around, scooting, and even napping on it. So, we wanted a nice floor covering that would be both comfortable and stylish, and would also add flair to our furnishings. Not to mention keeping those precious little hands and knees boo-boo free!

The area rug that we had down for the past 4 years had worn out it's welcome to say the least. It was still in "okay" shape, but not good enough for the living room, which is the first room you see as you walk through the front door. We were looking for something with more texture and thickness .. not thin and flimsy. Something that would stand the test of time with our large amount of traffic (lots of activity in this full house). As you can see from the "before" photo above, the all brown carpet does not flatter our new chocolate brown sectional at all. It also makes the room look very dark.

Fast forward to the beautiful Mohawk area rug shown above! Once it arrived, we were very happy to see that the colors were true to the sample photo on the website. The rug matched our chocolate brown sectional perfectly! The intricate design features the perfect blend of rusty brown, beige, tan, cornflower blue, and white shades to bring the whole fabulous look together.
Our kiddos (including the neighborhood kids) all “ooo’d and ahh’d” over the rug – each one wanting their turn at walking barefoot across it, and lying down to feel the soft pile. I must admit – I took my own turn at sinking my toes deep into the plush carpet. J It has held up very well, even with the occasional spill. Made with stain-resistant materials, so clean up is a breeze! No torn or frayed edges, bare spots, or color-fading here, and I was extremely pleased with the non-slip backing, which keeps the rug in it's place and our family safe from falls. Definitely a product you will want in your home for many years to come.
